When I first started making digital paintings five years ago I would never have thought that my hobby could become a way to help others – yet now, five years later, I can say that this has happened and it has been the most beautiful surprise. When I started I could barely come to terms with the graphic tablet – you have to look at the screen and not at your hand as you draw and it can be very confusing at first! Perseverance and a bit of stubbornness made things better and after a while, when I started getting my first paid commissions, I started thinking of ways to give back some of what I’d been so lucky to get.
Since then I have worked together with two different charities, auctioning off some of my art prints to contribute to their project.
There is one of these auctions currently running – two of my pieces of work are on it and all the money will go to research against cancer.
Through these events I have been able to meet and work with some truly awesome people who devote their efforts to making the world a better place for everyone. I also got to meet and get feedback from fellow artists whose work I greatly admire. It all goes to a good end and there are also perks on the side!
It is very rewarding to be able to put the fruit of my efforts to some good use and it goes to show that each of us can make a little difference with whatever skills we have. My dream is to be able someday to do something similar at City – wouldn’t it be great if the creatives among us came together and put forward their work to help our church in its mission? Perhaps someday this will come true!
If you want to know more about my work or the auctions listed please let me know!
